Operation Christmas Train set was born October 15th 2014 out of a combination desire to help less fortunate children and their families in our community at Christmas time, and a passion for model trains. We have brought the two together to reach out into our community.
It started by the founder putting together two train sets for two single mom’s and their children in his church who were struggling financially at Christmas time. Due to the generous donations of others we are building more sets to give away to needy families through partnering with various organizations in our community and beyond.
Some of the organizations involved include: Manna Pantry Yukon, Oklahoma, Yukon Sharing Yukon, Oklahoma, Angel Tree Prison Ministries Dr. Larry Mills SNU Bethany Oklahoma, Anna’s House Foster Care Facility Luther Parent Promise, T.E.E.M., The Family Center at Tinker AFB, 21st Century Santa,, as well as Toby Keith Foundation’s OK Kid’s Korral, Plus many more.
Some of our sponsors include: Local Oklahoma City Starbuck’s Location, Wm. K. Walthers, Inc. Trainline, Hobby Depot, Bachmann Trains, Lionel Trains, OK CMA Steel Horse Disciples, The Whistle Stop Trains Okc, Buchanan’s Public Market, Okc Train Show, Home Depot, Lowe’s and Multiple Model Railroad Clubs, Businesses and Individuals across the United States.
We are branching out to help underprivileged teens through gift cards for Christmas, as well as winter hats and gloves for bus stop kids.
In Addition we gave 92 train sets and over 600 toys 200 books, 100 hats and gloves impacting at least 800 having a $16000 impact on our community and its children during Christmas of 2016. We have also been building model railroad layouts for such organizations as the Toby Keith Foundation’s Ok Kids Korral (Completed), Anna’s House Foster Care Facility in Luther Oklahoma (Completed). We have also benefited this year with toys, displaced families through fire tragedies, as well as young cancer survivors, and the Elite jeeps toy drive for OU Children’s Hospital, and Fort Thinder HD Iron Horse Camps.
In addition we have been featured on media such as an article in the marker lamp (NMRA lone star region) with Riley Tiggs, The Oklahoma Gazzette, and on News 9.
